Lubbock Children’s Museum and Birthday Party Staffer (Part-time)

The Lubbock Children’s Museum is the pre-school children’s (ages 5 & under) discovery and play gallery with-in the Science Spectrum Museum. LCM staff greet, monitor and manage the number of visitors entering the LCM, as well as facilitate age appropriate craft, story-time and hands-on science activities with-in the gallery.  Staff also regularly pick-up and return toys and other items to their designated locations, and are responsible for continuous and thorough cleaning of the gallery.  Staff will also occasionally participate in additional museum-wide educational events, and offer assistance during science camps and workshops. Staff will also be trained and scheduled to coordinate children’s birthday party groups on the weekends. Applicants must be friendly and out-going in personality, and must be able to be on their feet for extended periods of time.

Science Spectrum Education Manager (Full-time)

Position Overview:
The Science Spectrum seeks an energetic, team-oriented individual who will champion high quality, engaging learning programming that inspires curiosity and creativity, making connections to all museum visitors. The Manager will oversee and actively participate in the development, coordination, delivery, evaluation, and promotion of the following diverse museum programs: Workshops, Camps, InReach/Outreach School STEM Programs, Live demonstrations, Birthday parties, ITV Programs (internet TV), Lubbock Children’s Museum (early childhood) Programs. The Manager will help recruit and train program facilitation staff & interns. The Manager will be responsible for fiscal management of the department and oversee maintenance and organization of education spaces, props, and supply storage areas. The Education Manager will collaborate with and support other staff across departments to ensure that the Museum meets its mission through engaging programs and signature events. The Manager will foster strong external collaboration with other community and educational organizations and leaders and act as liaison between these partners and the museum. Full time, exempt, salary range commensurate with experience.

Essential Requirements:

  • Three to five years’ experience with children’s programs, particularly developing, leading, teaching, and evaluating. In a museum or informal education setting preferred and in a field of science, a plus.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Two years’ experience managing, supervising staff, preferably a diverse staff with a team approach.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal –public speaking.
  • Self-motivated, creative, resourceful, and outgoing personality
  • Ability to interact with a variety of groups.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, web-based software, and a willingness to learn new systems.
  • Valid TX Driver’s License. Able to pass a background and motor vehicle check.
  • Adaptable, flexible, time manager, multitasker.
  • Able to work beyond normal business hours, weekends and holidays when needed.
  • Able to sit, stand, and walk for routine periods. Able to go up and down stairs, lift up to 35 pounds.
