Whether you’re 5 or 95, discoveries await you at the Science Spectrum Museum and OMNI Theater! Home to the Lubbock Children’s Museum, the OMNI Theater, and Lubbock’s only public aquarium, the Science Spectrum is a unique nonprofit museum located in West Texas. With over 250 hands-on science exhibits and live science shows, it’s the perfect place for the explorer in all of US!
BEGINNINGS
The Science Spectrum was first suggested as an idea in 1984 when a group of citizens discussed the various educational, cultural, and economic benefits that a science museum would bring to the South Plains. It was just two years later in 1986, when a board of members was formed and the Science Spectrum was incorporated.
The first exhibits premiered in February of 1988 in the South Plains Mall featuring the Science Spectrum’s first traveling exhibit, Light and Sight. The Science Spectrum held its Grand Opening as a permanent museum a year later on February 11th, 1989 at its first home on 50th and Slide.
As a growing icon of entertainment and education in Lubbock, the Science Spectrum expanded and moved to its now current location on the South Loop between Indiana and University in October of 1993.
In the past 35 years the Science Spectrum has presented over 50 traveling exhibits and has been a resource of science education to hundreds of thousands of people in Lubbock and the surrounding areas. This nonprofit Museum and OMNI Theater could not have been a success without such a strong community. Thank you for all your support and we look forward to inspiring minds of future generations to come!
